For the last couple of years, the number of UCLA faculty researching elements of climate change has increased markedly. In order to promote further development of interdisciplinary research in climate change, we will be holding monthly conversations around climate change research topics broadly. As specific research areas are identified by collaborating faculty and researchers, we will organize smaller working groups to develop research programs and grant proposals. The Climate Change Consortium is supported by the Institute of the Environment and Sustainability. But we welcome your leadership and contribution to develop strong interdisciplinary research in areas of climate change that interest you and your students/colleagues.

The first Roundtable will be held on April 10th. Prof. David Jacobs (Ecology & Evolutionary Biology) will lead us in a discussion of how past and regional climates can serve as proxies and guides for understanding current and future climate change in other parts of the world, including impacts on species/ecosystems and resources (water). He has shared the attached paper for your perusal and as a starting point for discussion.

The Roundtables are intended to be open, lively, and dynamic opportunities to engage with UCLA colleagues, students, and researchers. Rather than typical a typical seminar, a different person will lead the conversation on an issue of broad interest to researchers from across campus. Generally there will be no powerpoint slides, replaced with probing questions and a general theme of identifying interdisciplinary research opportunities.
